Velocity 9 is a drug derived from banshee. It granted its user with a high that included the ability to travel at superspeed. User becomes capable of running faster than the speed of sound (770 miles per hour). They gain sufficient energy reserves that enabled them to run at this average speed for an unknown amount of hours before reducing their speed to replenish their body's store of energy. User also become immune to the effects of friction, reduced oxygen up to a point where a human can no longer breathe, and impact upon their body while moving at super-speeds. The drug adapts the body towards the rigors of high-speed running. Its cardiovascular and respiratory systems becomes many times more efficient than those of a normal human being. User metabolizes an estimated 95% of the caloric energy content of foodstuffs (normal humans use about 25%). This causes user’s to have eextremely high appetites which usually is a clear indication of who’s on the drug. The chemical processes of their musculature become so highly enhanced that the body does not generate fatigue poisons, the normal by-products of locomotion, which force the body to rest. Rather, the body constantly expels waste products during user’s accelerated respiration through exhalation. The joints become smoother and lubricated more efficiently than those of a normal human being. The tendons gain the tensile strength of spring steel. The bones gain unknown materials significantly more durable than calcium to withstand the dynamic shocks of user’s feet touching the ground at speeds a human could never achieve or withstand. User’s practical reaction time becomes several times faster than a normal human's and the speed at which their brain processes information becomes heightened to a level commensurate with their bodily speed, enabling them to perceive their surroundings while traveling at high velocities. User’s lachrymose becomes more viscous than normal, thus preventing rapid evaporation and replenishment of surface fluids on their eyeballs under the influence of high wind velocity to occlude their vision.
User gains superhuman strength in their lower body as part of their body's adaptations for running. With their upper body they can lift (press) approximately 1000 pounds while their legs can press approximately 1 ton under optimal conditions. They are capable of resisting tremendous impact forces that could easily crush and kill a human without suffering any serious external or internal injuries.
The longer the drug is used the better it integrates with user’s body the faster the body becomes. When user finally comes down from the drug their metabolism over compensates forcing their nervous system to shut down for a short period of time. The withdrawal period also involves violent seizures.
